5 fun activities to do while on maternity leave
Here in Canada we have up to 12 months of paid maternity leave. I'm so lucky to have had so many friends on maternity leave with me. Together, we would search for activities to do during the day to keep babies entertained and get ourselves out of the house. Here are a few of my recommendations.
1. Star Gymnastics
Offers free playgroup for infants less than 12 months. Starr gymnastics offers a safe environment with soft mats, padded floors and colourful equipment.
It’s a great social activity for babies and mommyies.
2. Swimming
I joined in on this activity a few times with my friend and her little guy. It’s great to get babies familiar with the pool and water. They have flotation devices for infants to keep them safe. Without a pass, it was $15 a session.
3. Mommy & me yoga
This was offered at bayshore shopping centre. I wish I had of started going when Cameron was still an infant. When we started going he was around 5 months, which was still perfect. I could pick him up and use him as a weight. But at 9 months when he started crawling, forget it! He would crawl off my yoga mat and go steal other babies toys lol this is a free activity! Afterwards, you can shop and grab coffee with other mommas.
4. Indoor playgrounds
Kids Kingdom, Cosmic Adventures and Zigazoom offer affordable rates for infants and all have a separate area for toddlers under 2 or 3. It’s great to let them play with toys, blocks and bright colour shapes.
5. Stars & strollers
This is another activity I wish I knew about when Cameron was a newborn. Participating theatres offer certain films that are baby and mommy friendly. The speakers are turned down, there’s dim lighting, change tables and bottle warmers.
I took Cameron when he was 7 or 8 months old and it was fine. I brought toys to keep him distracted and of course snacks.
So there you have it. 5 great activities to do with your baby during your maternity leave! There are obviously plenty more types of activities out there, but these are the one I have tried and would recommend.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve done any classes with your baby and if you’d recommend them!
