10 must-take baby photos you can do at home
In the first year, babies change SO much. It’s so important to capture these special moments because in a blink they're gone. I highly recommend professional newborn photos because they are a beautiful memory of how small your baby once was and the parents are in the photos too.
These are the top 10 photos you’ll want to take of your baby in their first year
Monthly photos oh how I looked forward to these! We were gifted with this sweet elephant from friends when Cameron was born. I undeniably copied this photo idea from another momma on Instagram. But look how cute they are? I loved documenting his weight, height and what he was into that month. On my camera roll there was at least 20-30 attempts at getting the perfect photo, especially the older he got the more mobile he was. Such a sweet memory to look back on how they have grown.
Seasonal photos I really enjoy decorating the home with the seasons, especially our entrance way. I wish I had thought of more seasonal photos to take of Cameron. These are some ones that stood out. Valentine’s day- I smothered him in bright red lipstick kisses before setting him in front of the camera. Snowman- it was perfect timing for Cameron’s half birthday to dress him up as a little snowman. He was 6 months so just starting to sit up on his own. I had to be quick with the camera, before he toppled over! Santa outfit- I had bought a santa outfit when I was pregnant with Cameron, it was a 6-month outfit and I knew that would be pushing it. I managed to squeeze him into it only for this photoshoot! Easter – I’m not sure when this idea came to me, but I remember texting my Dad asking “can you bring one of your rabbits down next time you visit? It’s for a photoshoot.” He brought down what of his outdoor rabbits he has on his farm and it worked out perfect. Cameron was very curious as to what this animal was. Poor little bunny, he was a great sport!
Outdoor photo this is great to do when it’s a new season. Summer, Fall, Spring and Winter photos of your little ones are great memories. Even just looking back from one year to the next you can see how much they’ve grown and changed. I remember the first time I took Cameron to the park, he was just a wee thing. We chilled on a blanket and when he fell asleep I read my book and enjoyed the fresh air. Today going to a park is a WHOLE other ball game!
Photo in their car seat I took a few photos of Cameron in his infant car seat and it’s so crazy to look back and see how small he was in that big seat. When we moved him to a stage 2 car seat at 9 months, I took a photo of him in it because he looked like such a big boy!
Photo with their favourite toy Cameron really liked this toy car he got for his first Christmas. It was great to use as an infant and he still uses it as a toddler. I love toys that grow with the child.
Sleeping on your chest this is such an incredible and intimate moment. I loved lying on the couch and having C fall asleep on my chest, he was SO tiny. Check out Tinker on the back of the couch sleeping too.
Photo with Pet we have a family dog Tinker, she’s old and I wasn’t sure how she would react with a baby in the house. I have photos of me and Tinker when I was pregnant and now I have photos of Tinker and Cameron together. Again, more great memories to have.
In the buff – I think baby buns are the most adorable thing. So little and so innocent. It’s great to have these photos, not sure if he’ll think the same when he’s a teenager.
First time eating cereal or any food I was so excited for Cameron to try cereal; I knew he was ready at 5 months when he stuck his hand in my mom’s soup on our trip out west. It’s such a milestone when they’re learning to eat real food for the first time.
Sleeping – I mean really, is there anything sweeter? I still love taking photos of Cameron sleeping, it’s the only time he’ll stay still.
