Baby Shower - Gender Neutral Theme
Baby shower what will baby bee 🐝
I have the most amazing group of friends and family who organized this beautiful baby shower, with the sweetest gender neutral theme. I'm so grateful for the guest who traveled near and far to be part of this celebration (especially those traveling with very small babies).
Guests gave books instead of cards, and that was the best idea ever. We read books every night and it’s so nice to see who the book is from along with their well wishes.
Number of guests: 35
Location: Knights of Columbus, Aylmer, QC
What people ate: Dill/lemon couscous salads, pasta salad, mini wraps, veggies, fruit,
What people drank: Whatever they ordered at the bar
Desserts: Cake
Party Favours: cupcakes with the tag "thanks for bee-ing here"
Activities/ Games: Guess how many honey combs and the price is right (basket of baby essentials)
My sister in law Amanda, made this amazing Bee shaped cake. I remember I took it home and ate another piece before texting her asking 'Is the cake gluten free' of course it was! :)
Guest posts by my best friend who helped plan this special event:
"All 3 of us were super excited and curious to find out the gender and were wondering what the gender would be. We loved the countless play on words “mommy to bee” “what gender will baby bee” welcome bab-bee” combined with the fact that fact baby was set to arrive in June bordering on the cusp of last days of spring & first days of summer we thought it would be the perfect theme to welcome little peanut."
Games
With a large scale baby shower the old fashion go the around to everyone style games were just way too time consuming. And not every cares for games. With a large guests list we figured it would leave us hosts a little more freedom to to more pressing tasks. Plus it gave guests more freedom to focus on what was really important the mommy to bee 🐝 eating and socializing! Shelby did a great job adding a modern twist on old fashion games. With the internet and Pinterest there was no shortage of inspiration. The other bonus to doing it this way was that considering the large size hall we rented... having an extra table with strategically themed games (honey comb game below) added to the over all decor and made for a much more welcoming environment.
Decor
I was on a budget! I had $100 to make a big ass boring hall transform into a paradise for celebrating life and making memories to last forever. My other challenge was that we weren’t allowed to use tape, sticky tack, pins in the hall. Basically we weren’t allowed to use the walls! Ultimately I spent over 60% of my budget on fresh flowers. Nothing is more elegant/tasteful and more beautiful than flowers. I needed to add depth to the bare walls and high ceilings so I opted for black and yellow balloons placed on tables with various length ribbon to create feeling. Shelby brought mason jars to use as vases so that saved on cost and I had Dave slice up a few discs from a log to use as saucers for the vases to make them look more put together and add to the fresh and outdoorsy vibe.
Photo booth and back drop
I used cake dowels and coloured card stock all from the $ store to make custom made photo booth props. They turned out SO cute! For beautiful back drop I used my living room curtains (curtain rod and all.) We used twine, tissue paper flowers along with a hand made sign. Because I was faced with the challenge of not being allowed to hang anything on the walls I got Dave to make me something portable out of scrap wood. He primed it white so the mismatched wood wouldn’t show but that was just because he’s extra they were hidden by the curtains anyway. the curtains are an off white/ silver colour with a hint of shimmer and they are tall too so it was perfect!
